Annual Disney Summer Educational Program

Each year the Ira Zaslow Foundation has embarked upon a magical journey during the Annual Disney Educational Summer Program providing the opportunity to students from PS MS 306 of the East Bronx to travel to the Magic Kingdom, courtesy of AirTran Airways, where they begin a 5 night 6 day educational adventure. While in Disney, the children live the rich history of the U.S., explore the fascinating and surprising world of animal behavior and discover Disney’s world of physics through the mind of a theme park scientist.

Holiday of Hope

The Ira Zaslow Foundation recently launched its newest initiative, the Holiday of Hope program. Through a partnership with the NYC Coalition for the Homeless, the Foundation will be bringing less fortunate children and their families the holiday gifts they have always dreamed of. We are currently looking for Volunteers to organize the Foundation’s Holiday of Hope Program with the help of their friends and colleagues.

Computer Lab

This past winter, the Ira Zaslow Foundation installed 2 computers and a printer into each of the six (6) 4th grade classrooms at P.S. M.S. 306 in the Bronx. The Foundation’s goal was to make the most recent internet technology and computer software available to under-privileged children, giving them the competitive edge accessible to most students in more fortunate districts.

Team IRA's New York City Marathon

In 2003, Team IRA and its 20 runners dedicated themselves to accomplishing a lifetime dream. After months of training, that dream became a reality as each of Team IRA’s runners crossed the finish line of the New York City Marathon.

On Sunday November 7, 2004 a growing Team IRA is heading to the New York City Marathon to pay tribute to Ira through our run. This year is especially exciting year for the Foundation and Team IRA. With an upsurge of 25 runners our presence will be strong amd known.

Team IRA needs your help. In the weeks ahead, Team IRA and the Foundation will be distributing pledge forms for the New York City Marathon which will help in our efforts to support the programs and events of the Foundation. Please help us to help others by filling out the pledge form and help the Team IRA Runners assist the Foundation with its mission.

If you are interested in running this New York City Marathon with us, a future marathon or becoming a supporter of Team IRA’s efforts, we welcome your involvement. Applications for the 2004 Marathon are still being taken through the Foundation, but you must act now. If you are interested in running on behalf of the Foundation or supporting our efforts please contact Bryan Zaslow via email at Bryan@IraZaslowFoundation.org or call us at (212) 355-3197.

The Ira Zaslow Memorial Playground

The Nursery School Playground has been completed. Monday, October 21, 2002 was the ribbon cutting ceremony which took place at the Nursery School at 6:00 pm. At this point a plaque has been dedicated to Ira and the Foundation and reads as follows: This playground is dedicated to the memory of Ira Zaslow-a victim of 9/11/01-whose love of life shines on in this community and communities across New York through the Ira Zaslow Foundation.

The playground is currently being used by approximately 125 children. This year, the Nursery school has seen a tremendous increase in attendance partially due to the closing of the Y. If anyone is interested in making a contribution to the Nursery School Playground or creating a memorial at the playground through the purchase of a floor mat tile, please contact Bryan via email at Bryan@IraZaslowFoundation.org. Pictures of the playground are available on the site by clicking here.

Park Renovation

The Ira Zaslow Foundation is pursuing the renovation and rebuilding of one of two parks. We are working with various county and town offices to determine the needed renovations. We are also pursuing several sponsors and funding for this program and will furnish updates as they become more clear and definitive. The goal of the program is to renovate the fields, courts (including paddleball, basketball and tennis) and gardens to provide a destination for families, children and the elderly.
